In Decatur, AL, one man was so brazen as to as to walk up to a group of contractors who were finishing a project, steal their equipment and then drive off.  According to WHNT 19 News, Decatur (Alabama) Police arrested two men Tuesday night who they say walked up to a group of contractors finishing up a project, took their equipment and drove off.

Officers say they have a cut-and-dry case against the two men from Decatur.
Officers arrested the two after a plan that perhaps wasn’t thought through completely.
WHNT NEWS 19 asked Sgt. John Crouch, “So they saw the workers and stole the equipment right in front of them anyway?”
“Yes,” Crouch answered.
“Thought they would get away with it?” we asked.
“Yes,” Crouch replied.
It was around 8:30 Tuesday night when a crew from Down the Line, Inc. was finishing a paving job in the parking lot of Tru-Line Manufacturing on Central Parkway.
“As they were loading up, about to quit for the day, these two individuals pulled up in a small pick-up, drove over to their equipment trailer, and loaded a large leaf blower from their trailer onto the bed of the pickup truck, at which point they left,” said Crouch.
The crew from Down the Line called 911, then followed the thieves.
Police caught up with him and tried to pull him over. He ran, but officers chased him down.
“Would you say were these criminals were bold or dumb or both?” we asked.
“Well, one was drunk,” Crouch answered.
Police charged him with DUI, attempting to elude police and, of course, theft of property in the second degree.
the other was just charged with theft.

WHNT NEWS 19 contacted Down the Line, Inc. for comment, but they declined, saying only that they were grateful to get back their $1,500 leaf blower.
Police were also happy with how it all turned out.  “We are very glad that the incident ended the way it did, with no one getting hurt.”
Crouch says the two men are very familiar to the Decatur Police Department. One thief has an extensive criminal record with alcohol-related charges and was on probation for resisting arrest.
